Intrepid Rapture - Original mixed media painting – acrylic, oil paint, and oil pastel on cradled wood panel
Intrepid Rapture is a vivid exploration of rhythm, contrast, and organic abstraction. Dynamic layers of burnt orange, turquoise, and slate gray interplay with gestural linework and geometric textures, evoking both emotional intensity and structured chaos. The tactile brushwork and layered materials create a sense of motion and tension, as if the composition is caught mid-evolution. The balance between mechanical precision and expressive spontaneity gives the piece a feeling of controlled energy and introspection.
This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting from my thesis, "Sirens of my Anima".
Sirens of My Anima is a project encompassing abstraction based on the female form. The subjects are abstracted by simplifying the organic shapes of the highlights and shadows from the photo references taken for the series. During the process, the beginning shapes are laid in with acrylic paint. Pattern and texture are then built up using oil paint and oil pastel, with various mark-making and stenciling techniques applied on top of the acrylic base.
My thesis is derived from my exploration of the philosopher and psychologist C.G. Jung’s concept of the Collective Unconscious, specifically his Anima archetype. Jung believed that there is a woman in every man, the anima, and in every woman, there is a man, the animus. I began a journey to explore my anima and how she influences my psyche and tendencies in all aspects of my character. This collection is a result of that exploration.
